Angry words in my letterbox

In 2015, a small local campaign against a planned mosque in Bendigo, Victoria, expanded to involve far-right anti-Islamic groups.

Letterbox campaigns, a protest that shut down the town centre and the storming of a Council meeting were some of the ways the anti-mosque campaign played out.

Kelly Pham is a young Bendigo resident whose family had migrated from Malaysia to Australia.  Kelly was shocked to discover an anti-Muslim flyer in her letterbox, and told her story for ABC’s Heywire. She was the 2016 Heywire winner for Central Victoria.

This is a video version of Kelly’s story, broadcast on ABC TV and ABC iView.
